New Friends is a very happy piece. Wendy read on Facebook about a baby burro, taken to a vet clinic by a local horse rescue. The burro had been taken in at a very young age due to injuries. After spending time at the vet clinic she was treated and released back to the rescue. With all that care, she had been frequently handled. So she became a great model to be measured for sculpture. The burro was only 5 weeks old and her name is Chloe. Now, Chloe travels to events with the rescue and wherever she goes meets many new people. These rescues do such wonderful work and the animals are able to get a new chance at life in good homes.
This piece was a joy to sculpt. You will find it is a wonderful size for outdoors or indoors. See the connection between the butterfly and the burro. The butterfly is a symbol of hope and new beginnings, the perfect choice to interact with little Chloe. Chloe’s gesture makes you want to touch the piece and interact with it. The sculpture is filled with the joy of nature and new discoveries. For me, it is amazing to observe how different creatures relate to one another. So it is with these two, they have become “New Friends”.
